What's a Human Tutor?

At Human Tutor, we believe the root of all learning is human connection.

Our promise to you: learners will have support from actual human beings who care about them as people and are invested in their success. We never use AI tools to support learning, and we will not recommend them for students. The simple facts are that large language models are built on systemic prejudices, trained on stolen creative work, create misinformation, amplify the harms of environmental racism, and are designed in ways that are harmful, particularly for young folks with developing brains.

Our philosophy is simple. Learners of all ages are human beings. They deserve to feel empowered by education and to have the freedom to pursue subjects and skills that interest them. We believe liberation is the right of all living beings, and learning is a crucial component of living a free life.

As many as 25% of US adults lack basic literacy skills. More than half can't read above a 5th-grade level. This is often not due to any fault of their own. Education has been coopted to profit corporations that create and administer standardized tests while teachers are asked to do more and more, even as funding and resources are taken from them. Decades of public divestment from education have created a system where educators are hanging on by their fingernails while students fall through the cracks and miss opportunities to develop critical skills. We are ready to stand in the gap. If learners are legally required to receive an education, their communities must organize to help them access the resources necessary to make that education exciting and relevant to their own values and interests.

Our families deserve better

None of us are free until all of us are free

Generations before us worked hard to ensure their descendants would have access to education. At the same time, indigenous ways of learning and viewing the world were pushed out of society and violently suppressed through genocidal acts of aggression against indigenous communities, around the world.

Today, little remains of a public education system that once set global standards. Failing schools are no accident. They are a strategy to maintain our dependence and indoctrinate youth into a world where reality is increasingly controlled by the messaging of billionaire-owned media.

Invest in your learning goals today, and take back control of your life.
