I'm Jen, and I started Human Tutor with the belief that many of our learners urgently need support. US learning outcomes demonstrate that the system we have now isn't working.
Learners of all ages deserve support from competent, compassionate adults who can help them make sense of a rapidly changing world while working to address any gaps that may exist in their foundational skills or knowledge. Learning is key to liberation.
I focus on working with learners who have been labeled as being "difficult" or having "behavioral issues". These labels are often applied to learners with disabilities when they ask for accommodations that are not provided or that may prove inadequate, even if they are. Black, Native, and other marginalized learners face similar barriers that arise from over-policing of their emotions, appearance, and other characteristics tied to historical racial discrimination. This can impede progress in school.
The Human Tutor approach works together with learners as equal partners to develop self understanding, awareness, and agency so they're ready to meet the present moment—and all the moments to come.

In-person Tutoring

We are committed to offering any accommodations our learners may require. If you need an interpreter for a tutoring session, please be sure to include that in the "Access Information" field when scheduling a session.
For in-person tutoring, tutors will always wear a high-quality respirator such as N95 or KN95. In group settings where multiple learners are present, masks will be available, and an air purifier will be used to promote a safe learning environment. Masking helps us to accommodate learners with vulnerable immune systems, chronic illness, disabilities, and those who are taking steps to protect themselves from airborne infectious illness and environmental pollutants.

Unfortunately, we cannot enforce masking of others who are not affiliated with Human Tutor within shared environments. If you are a learner who prefers or requires tutoring in a more controlled environment, reach out to discuss options.
